Clean an Air Purifier: Know How to Do It Right

This is a simple instruction on how to clean an indoor air purifier. Even though each of the steps can be applied to all types of indoor air purifiers, it’s still recommended to make use of your manual provided with the device. Make sure to read at least one manual in order to find out if there’s any special information regarding how to treat the air purification system.

- First of all, before your start cleaning the indoor air purifier, ensure you have the assortment of the right tools, the weather is suitable and you have enough time to clean the device.

- Switch off and unplug the product before you begin to clean it. The purifier should not be ON even in case the homeowner is willing to just clean the exterior part of it.

- Take an indoor air purifier and move it directly to the open space that is perfectly ventilated and ONLY then remove the filter. Thus, you will be 100% sure that all allergens and pollutants are trapped inside the item.

- Make certain to use a soft cloth or a damp microfiber in order to wipe the indoor air purifier exterior. When dealing with the outlet vent, it’s recommended to use soft brush together with vacuum cleaner to easily scrub off narrow places that are hard to reach. To get rid of the stubborn dirt, ensure to damp the cloth with mixture made of lemon and water before you scrub the dirt off.

- Using any cleaning product or household detergents in the process is a taboo.

- The majority of models of indoor air purifiers are equipped with a handle or a button that make the cover opening easier for the user. If not, make sure to open the cover of the device. To do so, you have to grab both sides of the top corner and then pull it outwards.

- Using minimum force is a must. In order to close the cover, make sure to repeat the steps mentioned above, but instead – push it in. The very moment you hear ‘click’ sound, you should know that the cover is closed snugly.

- It’s time to open the cover in order to take the filters out. When working with carbon or HEPA filters, you will need to use vacuum cleaner to get rid of any dust. To remove extra stubborn dust, ensure to rinse it using just a little water and hand-wash it gently. It’s forbidden to soak Carbon and HEPA filters. Never wash them in washing machine.

- In case your device has a range of humidifying option, it’s required to take out the humidity filter in order to soak this element in a bucket or a sink that is filled with the water of normal temperature. Wait up to ten minutes and then wipe it using a soft cloth. In case the filter has faded colour, don’t get panic-stricken since it is OK.

- Find some well-ventilated area under the sun to place your filters there so that they could dry completely. The hours required for the filters to get 100% dry will depend on the temperature and soak the item is. Just make sure not to clean the indoor air purifier when it’s almost nightfall. One can also use a hair dryer, but it’s necessary to make use of the mildest setting and keep the device 2 inch from the filter.

- It’s important to double check if the process includes all the steps mentioned before. In case none of them is missed, you will have an opportunity to put the filters back and close everything snugly. Then turn the device on and make sure it runs in a normal mode. Do you hear any ‘grumbling’ sounds that come from the indoor air purifier? Ta-dah! You’ve made it! In case there’s a strange sound coming from the purifier, remove the filters once again to find out whether there’s any dirt clogged inside.

On a standard model, the user will only have to clean the exterior once in a fortnight, while the filters will require excellent cleaning every 3 months. If you feel like there is something in the process of cleaning that you’re not sure about, make sure to approach the experts of the company you’ve bought the purifier from to get further assistance.
